An international exersice took place on 23 – 26 April 2013 in Pstraze, it was organised by Polish National Headquarters of the State Fire Service and Insarag Regional group Africa, Europe and Middle East Reggion. Medium USAR team FRS (Fire Rescue Service) Prague participated in this exercise as Czech Republic representatives. The Team was involved in rescue operation and coordination with local crisis management authorities and coordination with local and external rescue units during the international rescue operation in fictional land Nibyland, that was affected by simulated emergency – earthquake.
The topic of the exercise:
On 23 April 2013 land Nibyland was struck by an earthquake, followed by several aftershocks, that should continued in next hours. On the scene of emergency was a large number of victims and collapsed buildings. The most affected city was Pstraze and surrounding villages. Distribution system of water and sewerage system were seriously damaged as well communication/roads, gas and energy supplies. Fires in some public and private buildings were registered. The hospitals in region were overloaded and humanitarian organisations worked on the edge of own capacities. Thousand people were without shelter, roads were blocked by traffic congestion nad by large number of traffic accidents.
All national capacities were involved in rescue operation in region, 23 April 2013 Nybiland sent Request for assistance to Monitoring and Information Centre EU (DG ECHO) and to neighbouring states: Poland, Ukraine, Russian Federation, Czech Republic and Germany.
